Hello family, i would like to ask all of you to do me a favor: for my application to the dMLIS program i have to answer 2 supplemental questions. I have written out a rough draft answer for one of them and would like your feedback. Here is the question: Write a short essay (no more than 250 words) on the following scenario: A friend says to you, "What do we need information professionals for? Isn't everything on the Internet?" How do you respond? Here is my answer:

First, while technology has become very prominent in day-to-day life in today’s society, we must recognize that not every has a computer, be it from lack of ability to afford one or from simple lack of interest in having advanced technology.

Second, there is so much information out there today, especially on the Internet, it is hard to decipher what is true information from what may not be accurate and/or true. Information professionals are essential for those around us to have someone that they can come to help them not only find out the resources to find the information they may need, but also to decipher what databases, including the internet, has the information that they need and to make sure that it is accurate information.

Third, while younger generations may be completely dependent on technology, there are older generations out there and people who have simply not had the access to learn how to use computers and the internet fully. We need information professionals for those who need help to use electronic information and we need them also to help with finding hard copy information that some people simply feel more comfortable with due to experience.
